The Daniel Solander Library was established in 1852 and is the oldest botanical research library in Australia. Its world-class collections contain over a quarter of a million items and include materials as diverse as books, journals, botanical illustrations, historic photographs, manuscripts, maps, archives, archaeological artefacts, and memorabilia.
Subject Coverage
The Library catalogue covers a diversity of subjects in science, history and culture with particular emphasis on botany, plant taxonomy, ecology, horticulture, horticultural history and management, gardens, gardens history and the early exploration of Australia.

The Library services the research needs of the staff of the Botanic Gardens and Centennial Parklands.
Our collections are open to everyone, by appointment, Tuesday-Wednesday and Friday. So that we can better assess your specific needs in advance of your visit, 1-2 days advance notice of visit is required, with details on the topic to be researched.
