Tours and Walks

Currently, guided tours at the Australian Botanic Garden and PlantBank will not be resuming until later in 2021. Visitors are still welcome to enjoy self-guided tours.
 

The Australian Botanic Garden is home to vast landscapes, stunning horticultural displays and The Australian PlantBank, the pinnacle of plant science research, all of which provide the visitor with a number of tours and walks.

A number of specialised tours are also run throughout the year looking at the Garden's bird and animal life. Head to our What's On page to see when these are operating and to book.

Australian PlantBank Tours

Free PlantBank Tour
On the weekends the dedicated volunteer guides at the Garden provide free guided tours of the Australian PlantBank (please keep in mind these do not go behind the scenes like the paid tours do).

Tour times can vary so please contact the Visitor Centre to confirm times and to book your space on the tour as tours book out quickly.

Tour times: Saturday and Sunday 11.00 am and 1.00 pm, the tour also runs some Friday's but please call to confirm

Secrets of the Seed Vault tour
This tour will take you into the laboratories and Seed Vault of the Australian PlantBank. Find out where millions of NSW flora are stored for preservation into the future.

Go into the NO PUBLIC ACCESS laboratories for these exclusive behind the scenes where the Garden's botanists are saving the future of Australian flora.

PLEASE NOTE: Enclosed shoes must be worn to take part in this tour and no children under 10 years of age.

Group Tours
This tour takes you behind the scenes of the significant research and conservation taking place at the Australian PlantBank research facility.

PLEASE NOTE: Enclosed shoes must be worn to take part in this tour and no children under 10 years of age.

Duration: 90 minutes

Garden Tours

Connections Garden Walk
The Connections Garden is a roofless museum showcasing the development of plants through time, their relationships with wildlife and their relationships with humans.

This four hectare Garden is not only stunning, but highly educational.

People Mover Tours
Hop aboard the electric people mover and let our experienced guides provide you with an informative drive tour of the whole Garden.

Tour times: Thursday 11.00 am and 1.00 pm, Friday 11.00 am, Saturday and Sunday 12.00 pm. Other times available by arrangement.

Cost: $14 adults, $5 children (7-12 years) 
Group Tours
If you are travelling to the Garden by bus or coach, book in for one of our Garden tours and have a team member hop on your vehicle and provide your group with an informative commentary on the history and life of the Garden.

Duration: 1 hour 15 min
Cost: $14 per adult; $11.50 concession

Spring is our peak time due to our wild flower display so please book well in advance.

Self Guided Walks

Woodland Walk
The Woodland Walk is approximately 4km in length and a relatively easy walk. We suggest it should take you about one hour to complete.

Please wear enclosed shoes, hat and take water with you.

Central Valley Walk
The Central Valley Walk is approximately 2.7km in length and a relatively easy walk along paved walk ways. We suggest it should take you about 45 minutes to complete.

This scenic walk does cover areas with considerable elevation so please keep this in mind before setting out.

The walk includes the stunning views from the top of Sundial Hill of the Sydney Basin and city skyline.

Please wear enclosed shoes, hat and take water with you.
